The GMC Hummer EV is receiving one of its most practical updates yet for the 2027 model year.
Every 2027 Hummer EV Pickup and SUV will come equipped with a factory-installed North American Charging Standard inlet. The move gives the electric supertruck a native NACS connection instead of requiring owners to rely on an adapter when using compatible NACS fast chargers.
The charging update is part of a broader refresh from GMC that also introduces new exterior colors, additional wheel choices and the limited-production Hummer EV ICON | 25 anniversary edition.
Why the Native NACS Port Matters
Previous Hummer EV models used a CCS1 charging inlet. Owners of compatible GM electric vehicles could still access supported NACS DC fast chargers using a GM-approved adapter, but that meant carrying and connecting an additional piece of equipment.
The 2027 update removes that extra step.
A native NACS inlet should make compatible fast-charging sessions more convenient, particularly for drivers who regularly travel beyond their home charging network. It also aligns the Hummer EV with the wider industry transition toward NACS hardware in North America.

The factory-installed port applies to the 2027 lineup. Earlier Hummer EV Pickup and SUV models equipped with CCS1 will continue to need a compatible adapter when connecting to supported NACS DC fast chargers.
That distinction is important for current owners. The 2027 hardware change does not mean existing CCS-equipped vehicles suddenly become incompatible, but their charging process will remain slightly less direct.
Charging availability, vehicle compatibility and activation requirements can still vary by station. Drivers should verify charger access through their vehicle software or the myGMC mobile app before beginning a trip.
The Hummer EV Keeps Its Extreme Personality
The charging port may be changing, but the Hummer EV is not becoming a conventional electric truck.
The 2027 lineup continues to offer many of the features that made the vehicle distinctive:

- King Crab drive mode
- Air Ride Adaptive Suspension
- Extract Mode
- Available Super Cruise
- Infinity Roof with removable Sky Panels
Extract Mode can raise the vehicle by approximately six inches at low speeds to help it clear difficult off-road obstacles. Available four-wheel steering systems are designed to improve maneuverability both on trails and in tighter spaces.
These features reinforce the Hummer EV’s unusual position in the market. It combines the dimensions and capability of a serious off-road vehicle with the acceleration and technology normally associated with high-performance EVs.
New Colors and Wheel Options Arrive for 2027
The new model year will introduce five available exterior colors:
- ICON
- Dark Ridge
- Azurite Blue
- Dark Ember
- Deep Void Matte
Two new 22-inch wheel options will also be available.
These additions do not fundamentally change the vehicle, but they give buyers more ways to personalize a model already known for its bold design and oversized presence.
ICON | 25 Celebrates the Hummer Nameplate
The limited-run Hummer EV ICON | 25 commemorates 25 years of the Hummer nameplate.
Its ICON Yellow exterior takes inspiration from the recognizable yellow paint associated with the Hummer H2. The anniversary model also receives a Jet Black interior, black exterior details, unique infotainment graphics and serialized badging on the passenger-side instrument panel.
Each vehicle will include an exclusive commemorative keepsake.
The ICON | 25 package will be available on both Pickup and SUV body styles in 2X and 3X configurations. GMC expects limited quantities to become available in the United States and Canada in early 2027.
Performance Remains Wild
The 2027 Hummer EV continues to deliver numbers that place it in a category of its own.
According to GMC, the 3X Pickup can produce up to 1,160 horsepower when equipped with the available 24-module battery. In that configuration, the truck is estimated to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 2.8 seconds under the appropriate conditions.
Those figures remain remarkable for a vehicle of this size.
The Hummer EV is not designed to be the lightest or most efficiency-focused electric truck. Its mission is centered on capability, acceleration, technology and visual impact.
Vehicle-to-Home Capability Continues
Alongside the new charging inlet, compatible 2027 Hummer EV models will continue to offer available vehicle-to-home bidirectional charging.
When paired with the required GM Energy equipment and a properly configured home, a compatible Hummer EV can provide temporary household power during an outage.
This gives the truck another role beyond transportation. Its large battery can also function as a backup energy source when the correct hardware and electrical installation are in place.
Final Thoughts
The native NACS inlet may not be the most dramatic feature on the 2027 Hummer EV, but it could become one of the most useful.
Removing the need for an adapter at compatible NACS fast chargers should make public charging more convenient. For a large and power-hungry electric vehicle, easier charging access can make a meaningful difference during longer journeys.
