BMW and MINI owners just got another reason to feel better about road-tripping in an EV.
BMW of North America has officially launched a new preferred pricing program with the IONNA charging network, giving BMW and MINI electric vehicle drivers 20% off charging sessions across participating IONNA stations in the U.S. through September 30, 2026.
And unlike many charging promotions, this one is designed to work automatically.
No Memberships, No Extra Apps
According to BMW, the discount is automatically applied when drivers start a charging session using:
- Plug & Charge
- The My BMW app
- The MINI app ecosystem
No subscription, loyalty card, or separate activation is required.
That may sound small, but it addresses one of the biggest frustrations EV drivers still deal with today:
👉 charging complexity
BMW’s approach here is clearly focused on making public charging feel more seamless and less stressful, especially for newer EV owners.
IONNA Is Expanding Quickly
The timing of this partnership matters because IONNA itself is growing fast.
IONNA is the charging joint venture backed by eight automakers:
- BMW
- GM
- Honda
- Hyundai
- Kia
- Mercedes-Benz
- Stellantis
- Toyota
The network now operates more than 1,000 fast-charging bays across the U.S., with thousands more currently under development.
IONNA stations are designed around:
- High-speed DC charging
- Both CCS and NACS connectors
- Lounge-style charging locations
- Better lighting and amenities compared to many older charging sites
The company’s long-term goal is to build around 30,000 charging bays by 2030.

BMW Is Preparing for Its Next EV Phase
This charging push also lines up with BMW’s broader EV expansion plans.
The company currently sells several EVs in the U.S., including:
- BMW i4
- BMW i5
- BMW i7
- BMW iX
- MINI Countryman Electric
BMW also confirmed that the next-generation BMW iX3 will arrive in the U.S. later this year.
As more premium EV buyers start taking longer trips, charging reliability is becoming just as important as range.
And honestly, that’s where many automakers still struggle.
Why This Matters
This announcement may look like a simple charging discount, but it reflects something bigger happening in the EV market.
Automakers are no longer just selling cars.
They’re increasingly competing on:
- Charging access
- Charging experience
- Software integration
- Ecosystem convenience
Tesla built a major advantage through Superchargers. Now legacy automakers are trying to create something closer to that experience through partnerships like IONNA.
Final Thoughts
BMW and MINI offering automatic charging discounts through IONNA is a relatively small move on paper.
But it points to a much bigger shift in the EV industry:
👉 Public charging is becoming part of the ownership experience, not just an afterthought.
And for EV drivers, a charging network that is faster, simpler, and easier to trust may end up mattering just as much as the vehicle itself.
