Lucid Recalls 3,627 Air Pure Sedans Over Rear-Drive Failure Risk

Lucid has issued a new recall for its Air sedan. This time, the issue is not a minor software glitch, but a mechanical problem that could directly affect how the car drives.

The company confirmed that 3,627 Lucid Air Pure rear-wheel-drive models in the U.S. are being recalled due to a potential issue in the rear drive system.

What’s the Issue?

At the center of the recall is the half-shaft connection in the rear drivetrain.

According to official filings, some vehicles may have bolts that were not properly secured during assembly. In the worst-case scenario, this could lead to:

  • Loss of connection in the drivetrain
  • Sudden loss of power while driving
  • Increased risk of a crash

Because these vehicles are single-motor, rear-wheel-drive, a failure in this component could result in a complete loss of propulsion.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall applies to:

  • Model: Lucid Air Pure (RWD)
  • Model years: 2024–2026
  • Production period: September 2023 to July 2025

Lucid estimates that around 8.9% of the affected vehicles may have this issue.

Why Was the Recall Expanded?

This problem is not entirely new.

Lucid had previously launched a smaller recall in 2025 for a similar issue. However:

  • Additional vehicles outside the original scope were later identified
  • A total of 26 incidents were reported

Following these findings, the company decided to expand the recall.

What’s the Fix?

Lucid is addressing the issue in two ways:

  • Physical repair
  • Service centers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the half-shaft bolts
  • Software support (OTA)
  • A new monitoring system will help detect potential issues earlier using vehicle data

Customer notifications are expected to begin in May 2026.

The Bigger Picture

This recall comes at an important time for Lucid.

The company is:

  • Scaling production
  • Preparing new models like the Gravity SUV
  • Working to strengthen its reputation for reliability

As production increases, issues like this are not uncommon in the industry. However, they can still have a direct impact on brand trust.

Final Thoughts

The Lucid Air remains a strong product in terms of performance and technology.

But this recall is a reminder that in today’s EV market, success is not just about range or speed.

Build quality and reliability matter just as much.
