Mercedes Unveils 1,153 HP Electric AMG GT 4 Door Coupe

Mercedes-AMG has officially entered a new era.

The company unveiled the all-new electric AMG GT 4 Door Coupe, and the numbers are difficult to ignore: up to 1,153 horsepower, a claimed 0–60 mph time of around 2.0 seconds, and charging speeds that push far beyond most EVs currently on the road.

But what makes this car interesting is not just the power.

It’s the fact that AMG is clearly trying to build an EV that still feels like an AMG.

AMG Is Leaving The V8 Era Behind

For years, AMG performance cars were defined by one thing:

👉 loud V8 engines

The previous AMG GT 4 Door relied heavily on that identity. This new version changes everything. The 2027 model is now fully electric and built on AMG’s new dedicated AMG.EA platform.

Instead of a twin-turbo V8, the car uses a new three-motor setup developed with British engineering company YASA:

  • Two motors at the rear
  • One motor at the front
  • Fully variable torque distribution
  • All-wheel drive

The top-spec GT 63 produces:

  • 1,153 hp
  • Around 1,475 lb-ft of torque
  • 0–60 mph in roughly 2 seconds
  • Top speed of around 186 mph

Even the lower GT 55 trim still makes over 800 horsepower.

The Technology Is Wild

Mercedes-AMG is using axial-flux electric motors, which are smaller and lighter than traditional EV motors while delivering significantly higher power density. This is the first large-scale production AMG to use the technology.

The battery system is equally aggressive:

Specification AMG GT 4 Door EV
Battery Capacity 106 kWh
Architecture 800V
Charging Speed Up to 600 kW
10–80% Charging Around 11 minutes
Estimated Range Up to 400 miles WLTP

Mercedes says a 10-minute fast charge can add roughly 460 km (286 miles) under ideal conditions.

That puts the car among the fastest-charging EVs ever revealed.

Yes, It Has Fake V8 Sounds

And honestly, this may become the most debated feature of the entire car.

Mercedes-AMG added a synthetic V8 sound system using more than 1,600 sound samples designed to recreate the feel of a traditional AMG engine.

The system also includes:

  • Simulated gearshifts
  • Paddle-triggered “shift jolts”
  • Artificial rev behavior
  • Seat vibrations tied to acceleration

Some enthusiasts will probably hate it.

Others may actually appreciate that AMG is at least trying to preserve some emotional connection as performance cars become electric.

Design Still Feels Like An AMG

Even though it’s fully electric, Mercedes clearly avoided making the car look like a generic EV sedan.

The new AMG GT keeps:

  • A long, low coupe silhouette
  • Wide rear haunches
  • Aggressive stance
  • Large illuminated AMG grille
  • Active aerodynamic elements

The drag coefficient reportedly drops to around 0.22 Cd, which is extremely low for a high-performance four-door.

Inside, the cabin is heavily digital:

  • 10.2-inch driver display
  • 14-inch center infotainment screen
  • Optional passenger display
  • AMG-specific performance software and telemetry

Mercedes Is Targeting Porsche And Lucid

The positioning here is obvious.

Mercedes-AMG is aiming directly at cars like:

  • Porsche Taycan Turbo GT
  • Lucid Air Sapphire
  • Tesla Model S Plaid

But AMG seems less interested in simply winning a horsepower war.

The company is trying to prove that a fully electric performance car can still feel dramatic, emotional, and unmistakably AMG.

That’s a much harder challenge.

Final Thoughts

The electric AMG GT 4 Door Coupe feels like one of the boldest moves Mercedes-AMG has made in years.

Not because it’s electric.

Almost every luxury brand is building EVs now.

What makes this car important is that AMG is trying to carry its identity into the EV era instead of abandoning it completely.

And whether people love or hate the fake V8 sounds, simulated shifts, or futuristic design, one thing is clear:

Mercedes-AMG is no longer treating EVs like side projects.

This is now the future of AMG performance.
